On Thursday 17th November, 2011, Mawson was put to 'sleep'
Mawson was born 13th June, 1997.
His Father, Kaiser ?, a Siberian Husky had jumped a fence and mated with his Mum, Shady, a Labrador.
When we were married Louise decided she wanted a dog. I said 'No'. I'd been through too many doggy deaths with Family dogs and I didn't want to go through that pain again. Louise said 'I don't care, I'm getting a dog anyway'. And hence we got Mawson. I chose his name because I'd always been fascinated by Antarctica. I applied in my 20's to go and work there.
On the day we chose him, there were 8 - 10 puppies. We picked him because he was the ONE puppy that was off doing his own thing and exploring. When we finally saw him we could see that he was different. He was never going to be an ordinary dog. And his 2 different coloured eyes were Incredible.
On the 10th July, 1997, we bought him Home.
It was decided that we would never tell Mawson that he was named after Sir Douglas Mawson, who ate his Siberian Husky sled dogs to stay alive :)
