Mobility Parking
Here's what someone with Multiple Sclerosis recently said about why Mobility Parking is so important to her.
""Neurological illnesses are totally discounted in my view. I have had this illness for a long time and have slowly progressed. I can't run anymore, I can't jump, I can't dance, I can't go out most nights because my sensory symptoms are so extreme that they feel like torture and medication doesn't really control them, I can't walk more than about 1/2 km if that to be honest or up or down hills or stairs without a rail to hold onto, but I can still walk a bit and drive. My car is my freedom. It is my way of saying ""stuff you society, I have a life too and I'll be buggered if you are going to bloody take it away"". I have a walking stick that permanently sits in my car in case I need it. I avoid using it whenever possible I guess because of pride and I hate people pitying me. And there are an awful lot of people who don't know I have MS because I hide it so well.
And yet this parking scheme, while I understand why they are doing it, isolates me even more than I am and makes it much more difficult for me to work and live in the community as a worthwhile contributing member. I feel angry.
You know I could easily lounge on the DSP receiving a bit of pitiful money, watching TV, reading, patting the cat and doing stuff all, but I don't. I work. I actually pay for my parking at work, the same as any other staff member, but I am able to park in disabled spots because I have a red parking permit. All of the campuses are very big and hilly. If I didn't have this permit, frankly I would be stuffed and I wouldn't be able to work there. All this scheme does is isolate me and others like me further. It shows an extreme ignorance of neurological conditions. Sorry if others disagree but that is my view. End of rant. ""
After having to walk across the Local Shopping Centre car park because the 2 Mobility Parking spaces were taken up by 2 Cars with NO Permits displayed, I thought about how I could make a Point
Perhaps there's NO point but what I decided to do makes ME feel better.
I did a Search on the Internet and found some great Ideas.
I decided to create a Business Card size card and put it under the Windscreen Wiper of Cars that aren't displaying a Permit
