Easter Friday, 2011
Yesterday I went to the Sydney Easter Show. Great day
While it's probablty too late for this Year I wanted to flag a few things that may makes it easier for anyone living with MS that decides to do it in the future.
1) They offer a Ticket for people with a Disability. $22.50 for the Person and a Carer. Big discount except ....
They can't be purchased online prior to the Show. Ticket has to be purchased at the Entrance. The Queue for tickets at 10 am was over an Hour. There is no where to sit down along the way, so if your using a Cane otr a Walker it's standing and Shuffling all the way.
There is also no one selling Water, Drinks or Food while you Queue.
So ... my advice would be , pay the Full Price online and book tickets online. The saving in price isn't worth the Pain
2) I hired an Electric Scooter. Not cheap $150 for the Day, but well worth it. I was without fatigue at the end of the day and was there until 9pm.
Easy to use, I've never used one before but found it easily manageable. I didn't need to recharge it , in fact, the battery still showed FULL when I returned it. I I covered pretty much the whole Showground during the day.
3) Mentally it was tiring. Negotiating the crowds took a lot of awareness. I came close to 'cleaning up' many small children who aren't aware and just step/run in front of you. The Scooter had a speed dial ranging from Tortoise to Hare. While I wanted to use the Hare setting I ended staying at Tortoise. That suited Lucy so she could just stroll along beside me
We made the Mistake of going into the Woolworths Food Dome at 1pm. Don't do it unless you're patient and prepared to be verbally assertive. Crowds are at a standstill so I found that if wanting to change direction, saying 'excuse me' would get people to cut you some slack
We went back at 5pm and it had calmed down a LOT
Same with the Showbag Pavillion. We hit that at about 6pm.
I hope this helps others who decide to do it
